CAST BELLS CONTROLLED IN THE CHURCH OF SAN DOMENICO

Date: February 15, 2019

GIOIA DEL COLLE – The bells in the Church of San Domenico, situated close to the City Palace, and run by the Confraternity of the Rosary will soon have a bell controller. The novelty is about to be installed. The Brotherhood have said: «At the end of 2018 we entrusted the company called Belltron situated in Colonnella, in the province of Teramo, to put together a project to control our bells. The latest bell we have was hoisted in September 1989 and is dedicated to the late engineer Donato Maria Boscia, who was killed in Palermo by the Mafia on the 2nd of March 1988. »

The dream is about to come true.: The brotherhood continues by saying: «The work will start on Monday 25th of February. The sound of the bells means life and have always been a part of the story of a community and its inhabitants. For us, the sound of the bells will be a calling for our town which is dedicated to the church of San Domenico. Soon, in just a few weeks time we will be able to hear the bell tolls in the morning, at noon and in the evening. These bells have remained silent for far too long and in the past were only rope pulled on specific holidays and important anniversaries.»

To summarise, the rope pulled bells will be managed by a computer as of the 14th of April. On Palm Sunday the three bells in the bell tower of the San Domenico church will play at different times of the day by means of an electro-magnetic system.  The entire town and the residents of the area will be able to hear the bell strikes on the hours and throughout the days of the year, from sunrise to sunset.
