Religious Celebrations in the Archdiocese of Taranto

Date: March 07, 2024

Rites and processions characterize all of Southern Italy and also Puglia has its own well-marked traditions that strengthen the identity of the inhabitants and at the same time attract many faithful from abroad. The Archdiocese of Taranto, guardian of a rich history and fervent faith, boasts a deep tradition rooted in the community. The confraternities here are still alive and well. The origins of the many sacred representations and processions can be traced back to several centuries ago, when, from there passed the crusaders to sail to the lands to be conquered. According to the Petrine legend, the apostle Peter founded the first Christian community during his journey to Rome, stopping in Taranto.

In this city there are two events of particular importance: the Corpus Christi and the Procession of San Cataldo.

Corpus Christi is a traditional Eucharistic procession that winds through the streets of the ancient town, involving confraternities, movements and lay associations wearing ritual clothing.

The celebrations for the feast of San Cataldo, which begin with a picturesque procession on the sea followed by one on land in May 10, involve the faithful who escort San Cataldo from the Cathedral to the church of Carmine. The long procession of the Saint through the streets of the city is very much felt and therefore assumes a relevant importance in the life of each inhabitant, involving hundreds of people.

During the processions, as for the classical liturgy within the church, it is important that all participants receive uniformly and clearly the message they want to convey. As for the inside area of the place of worship, the outdoor environments have their criticality and peculiarities. During our decades of experience in the field, we have found that there are two macro-types of problems: those who have problems with radio noise due to winding paths inside ancient parts of the city, or very long processions that need a particular extension.

Belltron’s Processional systems combine modern technology with a thousand-year-old tradition to guarantee an impeccable sound experience during any type of outdoor celebration. The Episcopal Curia has relied on the Belltron Processional Systems type SPP-520, which offer a homogeneous diffusion of sound and a high tonal correctness. Equipped with an integrated kit of transceivers, these systems solve the problems of interference often present in such events, both if they wind for long distances and if they are articulated in particularly narrow and winding streets.

Belltron processionals receive and amplify the message that the celebrant transmits making it clearly audible to all participants.

The technical and human expertise of Belltron Puglia retailers, Marco and Stefano Arcuri, has made possible the realization of a cutting-edge sound project for the Episcopal Curia of Taranto with the presence of five Belltron SPP-520 Processional Systems. Don Michele Colucci confirmed the success of the system, praising the clarity and homogeneity of the sound during the processions and underlining the prompt assistance offered in case of need. Thanks to the quality, professionalism and safety offered by the Belltron Processionals, also Don Dino Cimadomo is relying on our systems for processions and moments of prayer, having the certainty of the success of the event. Don Michele Colucci, also from the diocese of Taranto, highlighted the clarity and uniformity of speech and chants during the parades, underlining that the audio quality compared to other devices previously tested is clearly superior.

With state-of-the-art Belltron systems and the assistance of professional technicians always available, tradition and modernity blend harmoniously, offering a significant spiritual experience both to the local community of Taranto and to the faithful from outside for these religious occasions.
